'23 things blog start - Better late than never

Ok, My introductory - why I'm here & why I'm late :-)
I've heard about lots of things at library conferences and tried SOME of them. MySpace I abandoned even as I set up one; Twitter seems to be too high-maintenance; Facebook - now THAT one I'm on and using -- some. I run hot and cold depending on how busy I am and who I want to catch up with (or on) if I haven't seen them lately... I've used AIM and ICQ, actually very actively for about 8-10 years, but haven't looked at either more than a handful of times in the last 2-3 years, since they aren't integrated into my daily work or family needs any more. But I like learning/hearing about the newest communication trends, technologies, and websites... some of which I understand and some of which I do not.

When I had the opportunity to sign up for "23 things n 'at"
as this class is officially called, to learn and to practice some more of the communications technology used in libraries and social networking, I thought it a great chance to make myself take the time to learn some more.
Why late? ... well, I could just say, I always am interested in and have ideas for about 10 times as many things as I have time to do on any given day. I LOVE learning... and yet I also have a lot of varied interests and involvements that keep me busy, and frequently, if not always, "running behind."
So I am starting this blog for a "class," and late.

Personal comments -- what I'm really up to these days; why I'm "behind" in the class, even as I start.

I am writing this blog a bit late - 4 weeks after Allegheny County (Pa) started our 23 things n at (Pittsburghese) online class. In the time before I left for AZ, I was working my way through NEW books, items with lots of holds, and the eternal BACKLOG of items to be cataloged or reviewed or corrected.

I thought I'd have some time to play catch-up while on "vacation," and work through the 23 things lectures.... I have had a chance to discover the Robert Munsch website, http://www.robertmunsch.com/ , and listen to a few of his recordings on line and peruse the offerings there. I was interested in learning more about the author of "Love you forever" after his family donated a set of his books to Northland.

Well, although I'm not at my desk or cataloging, I'm still finding myself Very Busy with my firstborn granddaughter who is 6 1/2 months old but only 10 lbs. 4 oz. We're trying to feed her enough around the clock to keep her from having to go back on the feeding tube that she has only been off for about 2 or 2 1/2 weeks. Unfortunately, the first week, she did not gain the desired weight, and they gave her a reprieve. It is crazy how I can overeat so easily, but it is SO hard to get enough calories into her even though we try to give her as much as she wants, and then to even try to feed her during the night -- in her sleep... We're still way under on getting the target goal of 600 ml of food in a day... I could probably drink that size milkshake in 1 or 2 sittings....

So, there are other things to think about besides technology and cataloging rules, but I think I'll be still playing catchup on work AND sleep when I return to PA.
